Frequency Monitering Technique 

In this method People Meters are taken into use. People meters are fitted at the selected sample houses and the frequency of the programs on channels is recorded on those People meters. Now these frequencies are again characterised according to the matching channels. Duration of watch on each channel is determined and thereby TRP rating is decided.

Limitations of Frequency Monitoring Technique

Although base frequency or downlinking frequency is same for every part of india , but sometimes the cable operators change frequencies before sending signals. At such times readings may become inappropriate.

 

Picture matching Technique 

As the name suggests In this technique picture on the Television screen is recorded by the People meter. This picture is very small in size with the code digits (barcode) corresponding to the different channels. The data collected is then matched with the list of channels and the TRP rating is decided.

 

Advantage of Picture matching Technique

This system gives more accurate results because of the exact picture matching.

 

What is Peoples meter ?

People meter is an electronic device set up in the houses of selected Television consumers in order to record their watching habits on television.

There are two types of people meters

Local people meter – used in frequency monitoring technique

Portable People meter -  used in Picture matching technique

It keeps watch of everyday watching habits of childrens to elders in the home and takes average of them after 30 days, This data is then used to calculate the rating of the channels.

 

What is TRP rate ?

In simple words TRP rate means popularity of the channel, The more the channel is watched by viewers the more it has TRP rating. If particular program in that channel is ranking on the first position then that increases TRP rating of the channel.

 

How to calculate TRP rate

TRP can be calculated by taking the ratio of Total impressions to Total target audience.
